Hi! My name is Patty Emmons.

and I am "The Computer Lady"

I am a software professional who has been in the computer industry for over ten years. I have performed software testing on a variety of applications and have also provided quality assurance on several software development projects.

I began using computers in college where, like many people, I was afraid of the computer because it usually ate my homework (or lost it). I worked in the accounting computer lab and would tell the students, "I don't know any more than you do!" Over the years this has changed.

In 1992 I began working for a software company in Utah as a software tester. I basically began my career by playing with the computer and breaking the software. Which allowed me to become more confident in what can be done on the computer. Seeing the whole software development life-cycle and working with developers to improve the software is key for stability of the software and how the end user uses the software. I have worked for several companies performing software testing and moved into the quality assurance aspects of software development in 1995. I moved to Reston, VA in 1999 and continued working in the computer industry. I have worked in software testing, quality assurance and customer support since moving to the DC area.

My dream has always been to live my life on my own terms. I now have the skills to venture out on my own to do that. I am working on several different ventures in my decision to be an entrepreneur. Building confidence in using the computer is my main focus with the Basic Computer Training for Women but also provide  Computer Cleanup Services and Computer Technical Services.

To use my computer skills and assist women in learning how to use their computers, I began my  "Basic Computer Training for Women" business in April, 2004. Having the knowledge of how software is put together and what standards are used to develop most software applications has given me the ability to understand how software works . This is important when training and explaining software programs to those who take my training.
